The Unleashed Petals

Contributed by Justalady on Thursday, 25th March 2004 @ 10:09:46 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Like the petals of a rose in bud, my heart was encased in a protective outer leaf.
I didn't want it broken...didn't want to share my hearts belief.
But I let it burst forth, let the colors of myself be shown to the world,
In doing so...the petals and emotions became unfurled.

The brief moment between beauty and fade, caught me by surprise,
for it was the beauty that I thought would be forever in someone's eyes.
But the petals once unfurled, opened for all the world to see
can never again be wrapped so tightly, no longer the inner me.

The dew seen on each petal is the tear that fell from my eye,
as I watched and felt the thorns of life, and felt another emotion die.
The leaf that protected me and kept my heart from being found,
has dried and silently fallen, like dust upon the ground.

Oh, I want to take back the tender petals that were safe until the summer sun,
promised to give more color and sweetness, as a lover's song was sung.
What can take the place of the fragrant petals of a rose, I was just too blind to see,
that some emotions are best left wrapped tightly, within the inner me.

Yes every word, and I thought I was alone in darkness. I wish that you truely find one who will keep you as a new rose all of your days. Thank you for sharing.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
