Breath of Shadows

Contributed by doug on Wednesday, 24th March 2004 @ 09:58:53 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

silent shades of darkness
finger shadows stretching
grasping at my footsteps
as I wander by
silent trees are looming
crowding in around me
limbs reaching for me
smothering my cries
somewhere on the road behind
theres a horrid creature
who gobbles up the moonlight
and scurrys up the trees
I feel that it is there
although I cannot see it
maybe more than one
maybe more than three
I come unto a meadow
and run like hell across it
back into the oak trees
onto the other side
I wait and I watch
to see if something follows
it seems that there is nothing
and everything is fine
I laugh to myself
a trick of the mind
this and nothing more
I turn to head for home
rabid horrid screaming
steals my breath away
somethings in the meadow
its sanity is gone
I catch a glimpse of it
form the corner of my eyes
it looks straight at me
oh please God no
I bolt through the forest
limbs sting my face
thorns tear my flesh
adreneline flows
I hear one in front of me
then I hear another
I think I am surrounded
let this be a dream
I've lost my grip on sanity
this cannot be real
I know their in a pack
as I hear a dozen scream
I'm running out of breath
one hits me from the side
nearly knocks me down
I scream and stumble blindly
I bolt out of the forest
into the cottage clearing
I feel the breath of shadows
coming close behind me
I jump up on the porch
slam and bolt the door
tears stream down my face
I'm peeking out the window
I see nothing moving
the silence is disturbing
but at the forest line
I can see the breath of shadows

sorry its kinda long but I hope you liked it
