Velvet Symphony

VELVET SYMPHONY

I hear velvet crushing.
I hear fragile wings approaching.
I hear a gift unwrapping
and the ribbons are showering me.
My senses are confused-
I hear the light
and feel the voices.
I’ve got pulp stuck in my teeth
and Easter lilies dancing by my cheek.
I breathe cream soda air.
I see a parade and everyone is waving at me.
I feel the bed sheets twisting
around my wrists.
My senses are so confused-
I taste blindness and hear numbness.
I’m happy to give up everything
for fate’s bitterness,
for one I wasn’t destined to meet
but I already know you quite well.
I’ve seen you on the monitor,
in the mirror, in your father’s smile
and in my imagination:
in a sculpture
at a book signing
in a rocket ship
in a Broadway play
in a lab coat
in a wedding dress.
I hear fluids rushing
and I feel God nudging.
I hear velvet crushing.
I scream, “I love you!”
Flatline…Pulse…
we pass each other between time and space
between petals and butterfly wings
between sun kisses and moonbeams
between a first breath and a last…
Everything is clear now
and I can see you just fine.

You've described a tragedy with sincerity, beauty and sensitivity, with images that drew me in and caressed my imagination so . . .

Excellent exhibition of free-verse.
