My Fathers Smile*

Contributed by Glo on Monday, 22nd March 2004 @ 08:31:38 AM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

It came to me in a dream last night, and oh it seemed so real,
I was on a Government Post somewhere.
Just walking along, admiring the Soldiers in perfect formation..........
Some singing in Cadence while marching to their songs.
One in particular caught my eye, I just stood there for a while..........
It was a Soldier standing there at parade rest with My Fathers Smile!

I stood there looking in total disbelief.
He looked just like my Father, but he's been gone for years.........
Many a day and night, I've shed tear after tear.
He was such a loving Father, as I was told,
By my Sisters.......he had a heart of gold.
Such a loving man, always a pleasant smile.
A smile that could light up the darkest road for miles and miles.

Through my Famliy, I remember him well, of stories from days long ago.
When I look at his picture and see his smile, how I miss him so.
Such a gentle man who truly love his family,
Gone too soon, but the memories I have will last an Eternity.

I was so overwhelmed by this Soldier, I walked back almost a mile.
To look at him one more time, the man with My Fathers Smile!
They were still out on the field, but he was no longer there.
I looked and looked again all over the place,
Not one of the Soldiers matched his face.

Myself asking the Sergeant, "where is the Soldier with the last name of Eastley?"
I didn't think it strange that he had the same last name as me.
The Sergeant's reply to me was..........
"Ma'am, we have no Soldier by that last name, or any name ending with E!"

Off at a distance I could see someone walking all alone.
He turned around and looked at me........
To make his presence known.
It was my Father, I know that now ,the road up ahead so bright,
In a Spiritual voice he told me that he loved me........
As he walked into the light.

My reply to him was that "Daddy I love you too, and thank you for tonight!"
With a smile that could light up the world,
Made me proud to be one of his little girls.
Whenever I look into the mirror my reflection I see........
And My Fathers Smile, smiling back at me.
He remains forever in my heart, that's where he'll always be.

Till We Meet Again!
