The Stonewall in Winter
Come with me
And take my hand
Let us go together
Across the stonewall in winter
You and I
With arm in arm
Heads bent together
We’ll cross the stonewall in winter
But the footprints in the snow
Are mine alone
Your face just an image
Of a long time gone
On the other side
Into the darkness
Of the snowy pines
The glow and warmth of the fire left behind
The lights from my home
Cannot now be seen
And the trees are but traces
In the blackening sky
The pine boughs are close
And closer still
The silence and the darkness
Are upon me now
From here it seems
I cannot return
Painful, cold, silent and black,
Over the stonewall in winter
