The Maiden's Sleepless Night.

It was a sleepless night,
The moon gave off much light.
Wind would blow in gusts,
As the sleepless maiden lusts.
Things ran through her head,
While she lay awake in bed.
Thoughts of pleasure, thoughts of pain,
And could she be insane?
Thoughts of love, and thoughts of trust,
And how things return to dust.
Soon the sky looked red,
She should have been in bed.
Not a blink and not a peep,
Lying there fast asleep.
Things flew through her mind,
Sleep she could not find,
Not a dream of her distant love,
Or miracles from up above,
Not a nightmare full of dread,
Nor scenes from books she read.
She sat and wondered why,
And her eyes felt so dry.
She knew that sleep was best,
But she could only rest.
She should rest her body, rest her mind,
And maybe sleep she’ll find.
Will this advice be a lie?
She won’t know if she won’t try.

I know how that maiden feels. I battle insomnia some nights myself. That's why I'm up at all hours of the night writing poetry and then posting it on here... :) I love this poem!
