Who Are We

Contributed by maryetta on Saturday, 20th March 2004 @ 10:32:55 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

i am an old lady who lives deep within myself
i have no one who cares for me i embarrass them
i have my moments as do we all just more than most
now im in a nursing home and i dont rally know why
i come and go all the time i ask who are we

i am an old man i have caregivers care for me all hired
my children come to see me only when i behave
i guess i really cant blame them but i miss them
i cant control how i am i wonder why they dont understand
i come and go all the time i ask who are we

im a young woman life is just beginning for me what happened
i dont understand why me i still have my life ahead of me
this just cant be happening to me its got to be a mistake
im too young for this its only for old people not young
i come and go all the time i adk who are we

we come from all walks of life and we are of all ages
we ar men and women who had constructive lives to live
how this could happen to us we do not really know
but happen it did now we ar all victims of alzheimers
i come and go all the time i ask who are we

GOD BLESS,

YES, UNDERSTAND EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. MY FATHER HAD ALZHEIMERS AND WE PUT HIM IN A NURSING HOME BECAUSE HE WOULD GO OUT THE HOUSE AND GET LOST. BUT I MADE IT MY BUSINESS TO BE THERE FOR HIIM ALL THE TIME. I FED HIM, I HELPED THE NURSE CHANGE HIM. I TOOK HIM FOR WALKS AND I TALKED TO HIM. WHEN YOU PUT SOMEONE IN A NURSING HOME THE FAMILY SHOULD ALWAYS MAKE A LOT OF VISITS TO HELP OUT AND TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY STILL LOVE THEM AND CARE FOR THEM AND WILL ALWAYS BE THERE WHEN THEY NEED IT.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
