How Does He Know?

Contributed by ginsdance on Tuesday, 17th September 2002 @ 07:44:13 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

I don't know why he can't accept me,
Me, just the way that I am,
I'll never be the son he wanted,
Or a doctor like he planned.
I'll never cure diseases
Other than those of the heart,
And I'll never win a Nobel Prize
For just doing my part.
I'll never win a Grammy or an Oscar
And I'll never be a star,
And I won't look down my nose at people
Who haven't gotten very far.
I'll always bear the scars of life,
And I think I bear them well,
But as much as he expects of me
I really couldn't tell.
I am not perfect
And to tell you the truth, I never said I was,
But when asked why he pushes me so,
He answers, "Just because."
He won't accept that it's my life,
My world that I'm living in,
And that to do things my way
Isn't a sin.
He's a hypocrite, yelling and screaming,
Forcing his beliefs on me,
But, you know what, I'd like to think that I
Was born in THIS half of 20th Century.
I refuse to wait and grovel,
Or do everything he asks,
Because he's never there when I need him,
How does he know what I lack?

Great write Gin you can really feel the anger in this one. I know a friend that would love this as he is in the same type of situation with his father I think I will direct him here to read it.
