The Dawn Maiden and the West Wind

Contributed by karl_wiggins on Friday, 19th March 2004 @ 07:58:34 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

As a chalky dawn evolves into high flame
I remember the trance-like sequence
of clothes coming off,
her eyes the colour of violets,
and our tiny footprints
on the deserted shore
as we swam with dolphins.

I have learned to believe in the voices
of so many mystic experiences,
and a deserted shore
is a garden of gentle nymphs,
kissing the wind
and chanting their message,

"Go swim with dolphins,
meditate at dawn,
dance the dance of the ocean spirits,
for you are a dawn youth
and she is a dawn maiden."

I watched this dawn maiden
dancing on the waves.
A girl who would marry the west wind,
and we swam and danced all day.

Dances are carried in the heart of people
and tonight is the moondance.

Ethereal dancers float in the wind
and I hear the dawn maiden singing
of lovers and dolphin voices,
as the moon's misty shadow
reminds me that I am a dawn youth.

Those violet eyes come right at me
and the first breath of morning
combines the energy
of two souls who remember.

"Go swim with dolphins,
meditate at dawn,
dance the dance of the ocean spirits,
for she is a dawn maiden
and you are the west wind."

Karl; the imagery here is stunning. Oh to swim with the dolphins again. What a treat that was. This is a beautiful piece of work.
