Life Call

Contributed by Vigilante006 on Tuesday, 17th September 2002 @ 06:25:30 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

Tis spring, tis spring
and all the birds yet sweetly sing.
But I cannot so well them hear,
for I’m now deaf in my left ear.

In fall the trees shall lose their leaves
and all the grass turn into seeds.
But while leaves and grass shall grow again,
my hair’s been gone since who knows when.

And while the girls all used to stare,
they now shun my lack of hair.
Those who used to stop and flirt
now duck their heads inside their shirts.

And while I yet halt and gaze,
with eyes filled with love-struck haze,
Susie, Jane, and Mary-Lou,
now my looks they do eschew.

And while the money goes to pay
the bills that I accrue each day,
my income has not one inch grown
since Dick III obtained the throne.

Around me those who have degrees
are ubiquitous as bad emcees.
To them go the jobs, the fun, the perks.
While on the perimeter I lurk.

Their obsession with work recalls to me
the dedication of an NSYNC groupie.
They are welcome to do as they please,
to wear their ulcers on their sleeves.

But as for me I am content,
though my salary does not augment,
to teach my classes what it means
to stay in shape and fit one’s jeans.

One thing that I have learned through life
is, though I toil, strain, and strive,
my shape remains within the hands
of my own hormonal glands.

There is a bulge that will endure
through every dieting brochure.
It stems from Monday football nights
and triple chocolate fudge delights.

Despite my lack of physique
my body’s failure to be sleek,
there is one thing that still remains
and this life of mine yet sustains.

It is my love for those who care,
(without it I would not have a prayer)
my family, friends, and God above,
who endure all my failings with love.
