The memory of you dogs me
ferrets my heart out of the deepest holes
brings to surface the jetsam,
and my castaway love.
The ghost of you haunts me
it never lets me sleep.
Your ailing cry wakes me in my deepest nightmares.
Nightmares of what I am,
what you are,
and what we were.
Why can't I purge the memory,
forget you ever existed,
and start the chalkboard anew.
I wish I could put your ghost to rest,
as I mourn beside your grave.
