Memories of Yesterday

As I stand alone,
transfixed by the stars,
the solitude overwhelms me.
Like a wave,
memories wash over me.
Events of yesterdays gone by,
now awakening regret, shame, guilt and confusion.
Sorrow pools in my eyes,
revealing the depths of my anguished soul.
Feelings long ago buried come to the surface once again.
There is a lapse in my defenses. Darkness once forgotten, now awakened.
Emotions so fragile yet so intense,
I am overcome with the obsession to surmount them.
My silence is mistaken for arrogance.
It is a veil of solitude which harbors the tempest.
