Of Poetry and Passion.

The beginnings of my motions
upon the poetic stage,
began long ago
in my youthful age.
But the stirrings of passion
within my mortal shards,
began but a while ago
with the breaking of my heart.
Amidst the chatterings
of friendly acquaintance,
In vain I tried
to gain her attention.
Until after a spell
of awful silence,
did she inquire
as to my intentions.
"Nothing and everything" I replied
leaving her question unanswered,
"ah, the poet speaks"
was the response she tendered.
Thus I lay my aching heart
delicately upon the line,
whispering to her ears
my tales of love sublime.
"I'm flattered" she replied
but to her I am just a friend,
I took it all in stride
but my heart will never ever mend.
In the well of my emotions
is a wound that disappoints,
the rejections of love
a pain that never ends.
I once heard of this
a tale told by friends,
"you must be hurt"
"before you can lift the writer's pen".

Yes, some wounds are impossible to heal. They may scar over but the wound is still fresh underneath. Excellent.

An impressive write , and it seems we all suffer thusly of late. To put your heart on the line and have it stepped on is not a pleasant experience. Mine has been crushed to a bloody pulp and yet I still believe in love. Which means I probably haven't got half a brain lol.
Enjoyed your poetry.

Lots of thoughts about this poem. I have been on both sides. I've loved once deeply and haven't since but I have also said those exact words she said to you--to others. Which makes me feel terrible when I think on it. I wish love could be something we could pick and choose. Like when we want it we could open a box or something and get it and when we don't then we just don't open the box. The last stanza yes I think in alot of ways that is true. If I hadn't written during these past five years I would have lost my mind. This was a sad poem and I hope that it gets easier for you soon. Kie |

Oh BaronHawk, this poem was splendid from beginning to end!
It is so true, that a poet's heart and soul must be able to feel and go real deep down. Hurt it a good teacher to help us feel.......and that's what it takes to write a poem........a lot of emotions.......that's why poets can start or finish lots of unrest in the world.....they can feel it......when no one else can!
Oh, I'm so sorry for your hurt! but if it's any consolation at all! It's created a wonderful poet with your downfall.
It's so hard to understand how anyone could turn on you when you offer them love..perhaps you should be shouting.....she might have been your down fall......perhaps?
loved your poem

One of the stories behind my retreat into the mountains........you must be hurt before you lift the writer's pen. Why is this? Do we open a flood of pent up passion that has laid in ambush for our most vunerable moment? Often I meditate very deeply while writing poetry (hard to believe for an aussie yobbo) but these meditations clear all the thought and then transfers them to paper. I have cried while writing also, (every poets right) I see a clear bond here with this poem.
