Lady of the Mountain

* * *
Daksha, the great patriarch and Lord of the Space
Married Veerini the goddess of the cosmic winds
And got fifty nine constellations as his daughters
And got married all his daughters to various gods.
Daksha through severe penance won a boon from
Mother of universe then Sati the Goddess was born!
In due course she came of an age, adored the Lord
And for Sati’s sake Shiva the Lord of the universe
Manifested as an ascetic on the mountains of Kailas
Attended by the hosts of gods, demigods and sages!
Sati told Daksha that she would become wife of Siva
Daksha how ever gave away Sati in marriage to Siva
Even though disliked the ways of the Lord of Kailas!
* * *
Once Siva held a conference in the cool atmosphere
Of the snow clad silver gray mountains of the Kailas
As discussions were going on Daksha entered Kailas
He being the Patriarch and the father-in-law of Siva
All gods there stood up and paid their respects to him
But Siva being the ageless one would not bow down
Before the aged Patriarch even though he happened
To be his own father in law. Then Daksha grew angry
Throbbed with rage he began to scream out abuses on
Siva “Oh it is a shame and a disgrace, I have given my
Daughter in marriage to thee a wandering beggar with
Ashes of cremation grounds smeared all over thy body
Thy dress is strange, ways are vagrant, lacked manners”
He roared in anger, swore vengeance, but Siva ignored
These abuses and remained calm by His gracious nature
He was aware that paying obeisance to Daksha would
Shorten the life span of Daksha since He was over lord!
* * *
After some time Daksha arranged for a great sacrifice
To be performed on earth by ocean at a golden centre
All gods and goddesses were specially invited except
Siva and his daughter Sati whom he would put to shame
Fifty nine daughters of Daksha and their shining lords
Wearing lustrous garments and jewels came in advance
Other gods were hastening to reach the place of sacrifice
Saw their unusual rush Sati did learn about the sacrifice
In her mind’s eye she saw Daksha’s great golden palace
As it’d been her child hood home she wanted to go there
And requested permission of Siva, pleaded that a daughter
Needs no invitation to go to her own father’s house.
Then Shiva said -it was quite improper to go uninvited
And pointed out, she was not loved by her father Daksha,
Also said “O Sati, O my soul mate, your father hates me
As you are my wife you will not be welcomed by him."
But Sati with tears “let me go my Lord I long to see my
Mother and sisters." At last Siva gave his consent since
he would never bear to see sorrow in her beautiful face
Sati then started accompanied by maid servants and
faithful Nandi, she went to her father’s hall of sacrifice!
* * *
What happened when she entered the hall of great sacrifice?
Please await Part.2: The greatest calamity..

A great story indeed, I too await it's conclusion...of course being my darkly inclined self I think I can guess what or who is the sacrifice..he he he he..a lady perhaps...a daughter spurned and scorned? Anyway truly a pleasure to read...upon inspection you are a true master of the lyrical style. Just my opinions of course.
