the winding staircase
going down into my soul
it sees all my secrets
my hopes and desires
capturing every moment
feeling every emmotion
pain and sorrow it knows
loving and kind it is not
but it is still a staircase
that gets stepped on
each stair one at a time
feeling the pain of every step
wanting to collapse
and feel no more
leading into the darkness
and capturing the light
never to let go
keeping all my deepest
and darkest secrets
never to tell anyone
death and darkness are one
united by the staircase
never to leave again
trapped for all eternity
inside the winding staircase

An interesting concept.
Staircases allow us to ascend, as well as descend, though.
