Girls who smiled

When you get to my age you look back on things,
And sentiment means I reflect on my flings,
Girls who smiled yet names showed trouble ahead,
Now I know should have listened my Mom instead.

Although she was always so very sweet,
My affair with Anna Notherthing was very fleet,
Although known for being one hell of a tasty bird,
She always had to have the very last word.

Now I like to think that it's more than a rumour,
That I have an outsized jovial sense of humour,
Yet Jo Kingaside couldn't take it though she tried,
I had to ditch her when she looked at me and just cried.

When I dated Carol Singer it was the right time of year,
For all the frivolity of Christmas, food, presents, good cheer,
I thought that all she did each night was to burst into song,
But what she was up to with the three Kings proved me wrong!

Some of the girls I knew were much more than fantastic,
And that must include the splendidly leggy Lucy Lastic,
She took me back and we were ensconced in her lair,
Trouble was most of lads from town had also been there.

I thought that loving Gail Warning would be such a breeze,
But she shied away as I tried to kiss her under the apple trees,
Although in the right place she did not fancy the original sin,
It was for certain that of my intentions she had got wind.

Sometimes reasons were wrong like the time with Di Abolical,
Although very plain she made me look such a damn fool,
She found out that I was only in love with her money,
But what she did with my painful bits was not very funny.

So the girls over the years have come and gone,
And perhaps in reality I may have done so much wrong,
But they all said it was sad, definitely such a waste,
Though justice maybe as I ended up wed to Mary Inhaste

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
