lets say our goodbyes

Contributed by fallensilence on Sunday, 14th March 2004 @ 09:49:16 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

the sun is setting on our street
she puts her hand in mine
i am so sorry i can only stare at my feet
her words go right through me
i can only close my eyes and take in the warmth
the last bit of sun touch my skin so gently
i have to open my eyes before the memories start to fade in
reality washes over me and i can only give her hand a soft squeeze
"please dont go" she begs please
but this is only killing me
we both know we could never live forever
with our hearts entwined in one another
but our bodies afraid of the touch
the touch that we've long for much
this could be easier but its only getting harder
she knew that my heart would give in
I'm only suprised it didn't go on much longer
"we'll always have the memories"
but whats the point if i can't handle the pain they bring
the sun is set to let darkness overcome
and this will be the end of the day
when our hands let go and we both walk away
but when we're far enough i know that we'll both look back.

(we'll look back because it'll be like the memories that we will find ourselves thinking about later on, i miss you so much and i can't even find the courage to talk to you)

I understand the feelings of this poem so well. You know it is the right thing to do. You don't want to let go of the feelings. You know later you will regret it even knowing it was best. You described a part of my life and I am sure a lot of others here. Great write.

Rita

Oh the downward spiral permutations of a love that cannot be. Unsustainable for whatever reasons. (THE SUN IS SETTING ON OUR STREET) good imagry
