Spirit of Nature

Contributed by karl_wiggins on Sunday, 14th March 2004 @ 05:38:03 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Rich inside of me is the spirit of nature,
for late on a rainy May afternoon
I delight in special moments shared with old friends.

Tom remembers an endless stormy springtime
and an orchard that swayed with tuneful chuckling,
Marie recalls harvesting thirsty corn
and blessing her hallowed medicine wheel,
John's favourite memories are of dolphins
dancing for him each morning at sunrise,
while Sandra remembers healers and teachers
and claims we are born able to serenade the birds.

I witnessed new-born mountain lions in the spring snow
and nomadic elephants crossing the midnight desert.
I remember solitary buzzards flying the grand prairies
and windswept silver pelicans sailing over mudflats.
Slate-grey reef sharks hovering like phantoms above me,
women chanting from a centuries-old tradition,
and the gypsy girl who let me share her tent.
These were the only sane moments of my life.

The imagery is great. I think I will lie back and think on all these things for a couple of hours. Enter a 'sane' period.

This is visualisation of a very high calibur. I soon found myself lost and enraptured halfway through the second stanza, where you described people's favourite memoreis.
Regardless if this is poetic licence, it is a splendid array of images.
Very well done.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
