Working hard for years and years, they’ve gotten nowhere fast.
Their dreams and their ambitions ended far behind their past.
Such empty hopes and wishes the thought would turn out right.
Unprepared and unwilling, they faced life’s brutal bite
Lost regrets and broken vows now feed their washed-up souls
Leaving only their children to tend their dying coals.
And when their flame burns out and time has worn them cold,
Their hearts will carry on in outcries long foretold.
They will no longer walk this earth in bodies etched in lines
Formed from deep frustrations and sad memories that bind
No, these lost people will then follow a path worn well away
That leads to a home far greater than any words could ever say
The gate to this path is moved only for those whose faith is strong.
For the servants of the Lord who’ve suffered far too long.
Those who carry heavy burdens or debts too large to pay
The most humbled, hard-worked people will be the first to fly away.
We who remain on earth, who gaze up to the skies,
We hopelessly will raise our hands and wonder, “Why dear Lord, why?”
It will remain unanswered until our doubts start to cease.
He’ll hold back the reasons till the day we rest in peace.
For us who can’t yet be granted a ticket to those gates,
We stall with time on earth and start to forget our wait.
Caught up in man-made struggles and our human flaws,
We ignore the burning questions by creating our own laws.
And when we soon remember, the reason we are here,
The answer through the land will echo as the Maker draws us near.
Up to the God who made us, and His most holy Son.
We’ll stand there on the judgment day when our life on earth is done.
And after the initial shock, from His most glorious rays,
We’ll remember what we came for and let curiosity get its way.
Will we learn the truth as we reach the entry to the gate?
Or will He take us one by one to learn our final fate?
Like worms on a line, will we squirm in our shame,
As He shows us the moments in our life we when betrayed His holy name.
Will we beg for mercy, plead Him to forget?
Or will we stand by quietly with our heads hung in regret?
Our final day is nearing friends, don’t be left behind.
Our simple lives our fading, revealing the hope of all mankind.
Don’t doubt what you believe and know at which gate you’ll stand.
Because by the time you reach it, there will be no helping hand.
No hand to guide you or try to make you whole,
Hurry before time runs out, beg Him to save your soul.
