Broken Promises... Empty Dreams

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Broken promises... empty dreams
In her early life that's all she's seen
As she tries to cope with everything
All the pain she holds deep inside
It's to that which she clings... and hides
To help her find the inner peace
She has longed and hoped for
Aside from these broken promises... empty dreams

She tries to be strong...
She tries to be brave...
When she says there's nothing's wrong... she's okay
She's just hoping to come through this early part of her life unscathed
But on the inside... it's a strain
Just to keep a smile on her face
All the while... she would just rather breakdown and cry
But she puts on the best smile of her inner child
To greet the unsuspecting world as a new day is unfurled

Her eyes... the windows to her soul... bears all that is held deep... all that is untold
Those things that she tries to hide...
With just one look... one glimpse inside...
All is told in her life
Everything is laid bare for all the world to look upon
The pain... the hurt... the strain of these broken promises and empty dreams
They streamroll through her life like a long forgotten black train in the middle of the night

The broken promises... empty dreams
They lay in pieces... discarded and strewn
Wadded up and thrown away like yesterday's news
Pieces of her young life... wasted and ruined
Because love was not shown to her...
Just anger and pain...
No self- esteem... no worthiness about her has she retained

She's lived her life on broken promises... empty dreams
Yet... she's strong... but even the strong become weak
Yet... she's brave... but even the brave have fears
As she somehow keeps those promises tucked away and hidden
Somewhere in a far away dream
She just cries her silent... lonely tears

She doesn't know it... but maybe someday will
She lifts me high with the love that she shows
'Cause she the wind beneath my wings
She helps me keep my life composed
And gives flight to my dreams... as she encourages me

Very good emotional write, broken promises i've suffered a few of them in my time! (if i think hard enough i expect i've made a few of my own)

She's lived her life on broken promises... empty dreams
Yet... she's strong... but even the strong become weak
Yet... she's brave... but even the brave have fears

First let me say I commend you on this poem. It was remarkable. I could also relate as I am sure many others will. No one knows what is going on inside of us but we can still smile and inspire others. There is a sense of happiness found in encouraging someone else because it helps to fill that void inside of us. This was so great to read and I thank you for sharing it. Kie
