this is war

Contributed by lostinmyself on Friday, 12th March 2004 @ 02:18:46 PM in AEST
Topic: war

They cry helpless and afraid,
Their homes and possessions,
Destroyed by bombs,
While the rest of the world,
Sits in front of fires or in beds,
Watching reports of the war on T.V.

This is war.

I hear the cries of the wounded and afraid,
And the sound of bombs in my head,
I think of the innocent people,
Getting killed because of someone else,

This is war.

I wish that I could help the innocent,
Caught up in a fight,
That’s not their own,
Countries fighting over land or religion.
It seems stupid to me,
Fighting over something
That will only be destroyed in the end.

This is war.

I pity the people who laugh at the fighting,
War could happen to us too,
We could be killed,
And no one would be laughing.

War reminds me that the world is not perfect,
And that its inhabitants are even worse.

You are extremely intelligant to write this at age 11. To be able to grasp what was going on in a war from the other side - through to television screen and yet past the reporters, ver intelligant indead. Very, very good write.
