The Vampire

He was my friend , a chubby little guy with a grown up mind
I tried to tell him not to visit that house,
I told him there was something evil about that man.
But his brilliant mind dismissed my childish fear
And the creature lured him with adult secrets
They talked about private things like desires
Taboo things, like women and sex.
The strange and bizarrely erotic
The creature showed him pictures and films
They shared a cocktail of hormones, excitement, fear, and guilt.
But my friend was overwhelmed by the fear and guilt
And soon stopped going to visit the creature.

The years passed and we became men
Each going his separate way.
My friend announced that he was Gay
And began to refine his own cocktail
Like a drug addict his craving for taboo sex
Became the focal point of his life.
Every waking moment dedicated to finding
A spicier mix of eroticism, and adrenaline.
First there were amyl nitrates
Then bondage and then S&M
His partners would come and go
As they lost their newness and excitement.

We talked occasionally over the years
And I could see the jade growing over his heart.
Once he described a new game his friends liked to play
One that took them to the edge of Death
The years passed yet more and we grew older.
Adrenal glands wear down with abuse.
His addiction grew harder to satisfy
Finally he began to prowl for the youngest
He could sense those with the right chemistry
He taught them the secrets to unlock their inner narcotic..
And as they experienced dark ecstasy
He would gaze into their eyes and feed on their feelings
He has become the creature of his youth.
The Vampire
He thinks he hasn’t crossed the line and become a monster.
He does not yet feed on children or death.
Maybe he never will.
Most don’t.
Would he have taken this path
If he had not met the creature?
I do not know.
Once he was my friend
Closer than a brother
I loved him.
Now there is only pity.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
