when we met you seemed so sweet
not to mention so handsome and neat
so educated and intelligent too
a man with a mind i loved that about you
long conversations about you and me
you were just good ole company
my kids adored you especially my son
through my kids my heart you had one
you visits always a lot of fun
i hated to see you go when the day was done
but the more time we spent together we both knew
that there was something there between me and you
you came more often and it was great
you being in my life seemed like fate
after a while we were married and it seemed unreal
things changed and i didnt know how to feel
at first it was nice being with you
but then gone were the fun things we use to do
you wanted to show me off like i was a prize
prance me around in front of your friends eyes
i felt like a trophy you had won in a game
nothing between us felt the same
i felt alone except for my kids being there
the beginning of a marriage going no where
you were a perfectionist and set in your ways
i so missed those good old days
when we could laugh and talk and just have fun
the days of love when my heart was won
excuse after excuse of why things changed
all i know is my priorities i had to rearrange
i cant continue to living this way
we are married im suppose to be happy in some way
i know that you loved me there i had no dispute
but it was just they way you showed it that part didnt compute
the days were long and the nights were sweet
but we needed more than that to make this marriage complete
i tried to understand God knows i wanted it to workout
but the longer i stayed the more there was doubt
i just didnt know what this marriage was about
i didn't know if me and you would work out
i guess it was because you expected me to be the silent wife
but if i cant live and have fun then i have no life
i decided that i need to get away i needed time to think
because this marriage like the titantic was about to sink
so i packed my bags and got my kids and went away
i must admitt for me that was a sad day
and neither of us had much to say
i didnt want to leave but i couldnt stay
and hopefully while im gone you will figure out
what being in a marriage is all about

I must say this reveals a hidden aspect of marriage. The poem is explicit and full with info....
Let me just say this about this work, a rhyming scheme of AA/BB/CC/DDDD/BB/EE/FF/BB/GG/HH/II/GG/DD/JK/LL/MM/NN/OOOO/PP/QQ.LLLL/OO evidently shows a distortion of pattern, free verse could have matched the alliterative facade created with the word 'I' at the starting lines. I believe the writer used this style to showcase the confusion evident in most marriages in our today's world. This is a great work... really great. |
