More Than a Kindergarten Finger Painting

Lightly browned canvas
slowly filling, consumed with markings.
Scarcely fading, wading waters
too heavy and deep.
Changing colors
like magic markers,
like those toy cars you put under water,
but without so many options.
Some accidental streaks
upon that canvas.
Some hastily strewn on splatters.
From bright and vibrant
slowly changing to dead and dying.
A final picture
streaked over with a magic healing white,
So pure, where all color ran out.
A masterpiece to the maker;
but to critics an atrocity.
But each critique
simply adds to the cluttered beauty
of the maker's new masterpiece.
