O Mother, forgive me please!

Contributed by venkat on Monday, 8th March 2004 @ 12:45:16 AM in AEST
Topic: spiritual

O mother of the universe, never have I worshipped
Thee with mystic charms, nor have I read holy word
Neither do I sing hymns of praise, but I call on Thee
O Mother, in my distress, to take refuge at Thy feet!
Owing to my poverty and laziness I have not cared
To do what I ought to have done. O Mother beloved
What ever faults of omission I might’ve committed
Forgive me, for a bad son may some times be born
But there is never a bad mother; let my sins be burnt!
Thou hast many worthy sons on earth; but amongst
Them I’m most insignificant, yet Mother, Thou can’t
Forsake me, since I’ve taken refuge at Thy lotus feet!
I have abandoned the worship of all other gods and
Now I’m more than eighty years of age, if Thou wilt
Not even now bestow thy grace, in who else I shall
Take refuge, O Thou, Mother of the Lord of hosts
Thou Aparna stainless Goddess, even an out cast
Speaks sweet words, even a beggar roles without
Fear over crores of gold pieces mere hearing Thy
Mystic word-symbols, then, who can say what fruits
Would result from proper repetition of Thy mantras!
I have no desire for sex nor for wealth and knowledge;
Neither am I desirous of liberation, O moon faced one,
But this much I beg of thee that my life be spent reciting
Siva, Siva-Bhavaani, Rudraani, Mridani, Kaali, Himavati
O Durga, ocean of mercy, in my distresses I call on Thee
Think not that I am a cheat, for it is natural that children
Afflicted with hunger and thirst remember their Mother
And there is no wonder if thou should be full of mercy
For me, for a Mother does not forsake her son even
If he has innumerable faults. O Mother of universe!
There is not such a sinner like me, neither such
A destroyer of sins like Thee, having known
All this, do as Thou think fit to be done!
OM Hrim OM, OM Tat Sat OM
(From Sri Adi Sankara)

I agree with Nessa and noticed the shape of the vase too, imagining it also filled with lotus blossoms ... I am always impressed, venkat, with your ability to rise above mortal failings and worship like you do ... impressive write ... Jan

You are the master of poetic expression. Every time I read your poems I find myself at a loss on how to leave an intelligent comment. I'm just in awe and I wonder how does he write masterpieces consequtively over and over? Oh to have your talent for a day! I could rule the world. This poem was filled with so much emotion, very strong write filled with deep emotion. Kie

Oh humble man of words. The strength behind your faith is obvious. You plant an impression in the minds of those who read your words and leave us speechless. I respect you for your fervent pleas in your faith. May all man see the light that shines forth from you and gain. Bows to you, honorable friend. Find peace.
Angel always...godspeed...~joni~

I find this a touching tribute (plea?). Also, it must just be me, but I see the shape of a woman in this. Your writing is inspiring and so far above the drivel that I put out, that I am embarassed to think you even read my posts.
Humbly,
Thumper
