Leather is a dark and dusky colour.
A raven-haired, black-eyed colour that could eat the ******** out of a bear.
It is the debt-collector’s colour
A colour with red ink on the price tag.
Leather is the colour of bastinado
The hickory oil colour of butwhuppings
And of the roof falling in.
It is also the back-alley colour of funk-fusion
And low-down dirty jam sessions
The colour of slurred gut-bucket riffs
Smooth and mellow.
It is the colour of blues and ragtime and gospel.
Punk rock and hip-hop and folk work songs
are not leather-coloured styles of popular music.
Neither are bubblegum pop or cradlesong lullabies or glitter rock.
Leather-coloured music is more jug band and Cajun blues and scat.
Leather is a swamp rat with a gris-gris bag.

Hmmmm, but a gutsy deep earth color. Like wood, I love the feeling of wood.
