Kahlo is a “blue-house” colour
Although not necessarily blue.
Neither is it Huckleberry, Hydrangea or powder.
Mind you, Kahlo may well be Huckleberry
I’m not too sure
But it’s definitely not bluebonnet, wedgwood or ice
Kahlo could never be bluebonnet.
Kahlo is more Acapulco gold
Or burnt Roman ochre
Or even Spanish ochre
With touches of burgundy, nutmeg and bougainvillea.
Kahlo is a life of wracking pain
Metal rods and deep abdominal wounds
Amputations and substance abuse.
Kahlo is bloody births and deaths
Foetuses
Corpses
Disembodied organs
The elimination of skin as a physical barrier
And the invasion of the body by external objects
Kahlo is a seductive grin
As an incinerator door blows open
To reveal a body sitting bolt upright
Hair on fire
Blazing like a halo
Kahlo is the sub-personalities
Of real suffering and mythical artwork
Of bisexuality and communism
All connected by joint circulatory systems
Kahlo is Mezcal with chilli
Dried citrus peels
Red pepper
Cedar
And cigar leaf
Woody notes
And heat sneaking up fast.
Kahlo is pink mountains of shrimp in the markets
And barrio fiestas
Where exotic Tehuana women with flowers in their hair
Dance with rhythm and dignity
While their long rabona skirts
Billow out around them
Lo que el agua me ha dado
Kahlo is the colour of wild people and free thinkers
It is affairs with Russian revolutionaries
The wives of French poets
Famous actresses
Spanish and American avant-garde artists
And even Japanese sculptors
Frida Kahlo is the colour of legends
Myths
And cult figures
Madonna and Robert de Niro are blue-house
Although, rather sadly, Jennifer Lopez is not.
“Diego on my mind” is Kahlo coloured.
I hope the end is joyful
And I hope never to come back.

Like a demonic colour, yet has enticing qualities.

Hi, nice to see another person who appreciates fine art. I'm not really a Modern Abstract guy-more like pre-Raphaelite in preference, but hey you sure did justice to Kahlo's legacy! |
