Do You Really Know Me At All?

Contributed by kidpoet_213 on Sunday, 7th March 2004 @ 06:25:27 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Sometimes I feel one emotion after another
Things well up from deep inside of me
While my heart's trying to set love free

Each and everytime I try and write...
The words get all twisted up inside
My mind goes blank... the words won't come
It seems there's nothing to be said at all
That would help this pain I carry inside
'Cause it's the pain of all mankind

You may think you know me...
But do you really?
Do you really know me at all?
Am I the person you think you know?
Did my first impression leave an imprint upon your soul?
Do you really know me at all?

You don't seem to understand the things I feel...
Or the dreams I dream... they all seem so real
If you would look at me through other's eyes
Then you might see and realize...
Who the "real" me is with no disguise...

To my parents... I was their little bundle of joy
I came along one cold February morn
I'm the last of three... oh, what joy it is to be me...
To my sis and bro... I'm the one God sent... they were quick to call "leftovers"
Leftover from what? I really haven't a clue...
To my nieces and nephews... I'll always be there in your time of need...
To be a rock on which to lean... someone ready to hug in your time of need
To all my friends... near and far... I'll always be there to lend a helping hand...
Always there when you're in need of a "true" friend
To God... I'm one of His many little children... who walks daily through this old world of sin
To do His will... not just when I can... but to always be ready...
To help this dying world see...His saving grace as He walks with me

If you knew me like you think you do...
Then you would see the "real" me... not the real me I am to you
The views of these people are distorted in someway you say...
By all the things I do and all the things I say...
Have influenced these people to think that way...

But if you really knew me at all...
You would understand all the things I ponder in my heart and in my soul
Do you really know me at all?

There's so much here. Maybe it's really 2 poems or maybe one that just needs some tightening. I love the first stanza and can related completely. I love the last one, too. There's so much in between, it's almost overwhelming. There's much potential here though.

Do we ever totally reveal our true selves to anyone but our God? I think there is always some little part of us we keep for ourselves. Our own private little part of us. This is a good poem immersed with a great deal of thought.
