It takes a petal to resist, but a plant to die

Petals deface the stem with reason
It braces itself as a slight defense
Thorn of seasons strike them dead
What remains will not challenge it again
A petal grew once more upon the stem
But morning grew angry and sent the sun away
It's the division of mind and matter with them
What to control, who to let live, could I detach and become bold
It's the green in my body to hold
But the stem refuses so I'm sold
And the soil that I'm living in
A gift to sit but given up to win
