My Burden

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

It hasn't changed for too long now.
It's been the same for way too long now.
It's been like this for much too long now.

As the burdens are piled upon this cart I pull,
I drag my feet one step farther on.
My burden of the broken trees, boulders, and each painfully heavy corpse;
it's all I can do to carry on.

And why can't they lighten the load?
And why can't they pull along side?
And why can't they ease my burden?

The sun burns too bright upon my bare skin;
they've taken away my dignity.
The moon shines too cold;
right to my soul it's frozen me.

And it's frozen me inside.
And it's made it impossible to hide.
They all just stood and watched as I cried.

And now I'm pulling this burden
with whips at my back, prodding.
And my body is so weary, heavy,
and my feet just keep on plodding.

They can't hear my screaming.
They don't know what I'm dreaming.
They can't see what I'm seeing.

And as the burdens pile higher,
my faltering steps grow weaker.
My future is this gravel road,
and it's just getting bleaker.

Can't they see they're what's killing me?
Can't they see this isn't what I'm meant to be?
Can't they see this atrocity that is me?

So all I do is wearily trod on,
finding what comfort I can in your embrace;
your cold unfeeling using hold, I know
is underneath that face.

And I can't seem to stop what I'm doing.
And I'm not even sure what I should be doing.
And I'm just about ready to stop doing.

The burden of this cart I pull
has become to heavy for me to bear.
Alone, I cannot survive,
for this is much more than my share.

And I cry out to someone to care.
And I scream is anyone there?
And I beg for someone to make life fair.

My legs collapse, knees scraped in the rocks.
My head falls between my shoulders and my hands brace the ground.
Raise my eyes for a moment,
longing for someone to be found.

I cry to the wind for someone to lift me.
I beg for the soul left within me.
And from this burden I long for you to free me.

Could you ever lift this burden from these shoulders?
Could you even send me hope to carry on?
Or will you be laughing as you say,
that I'm too far gone.

Lift this from my shoulders; I beg!
Lift this from my shoulders; I cry!
Lift this from my shoulders; or I shall drown.

I know as I feel your hand upon me, lifting my face,
only perfect love could set me free.
And I know as I gaze up,
that you've been carrying me.
