Why Not Cut?

Contributed by WorthlesSanity666 on Friday, 5th March 2004 @ 10:06:02 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I don't know why
people don't like it when
I cut myself.
Do they want me to feel
all the pain and suffering?

I stumble into my room,
mind racing,
palms sweating,
heart pounding.
I start breathing--
faster and faster.
All these emotions--
I can't handle it!
I'd cry,
but I'm too sad.
I'd shout,
but I'm too overwhelmed.
My head is spinning,
unable to stop the flow
of feelings and memories,
no matter how hard I try.
Breathing faster still,
eyes darting about,
I grab
the first
sharp
object
in sight;
preferably shiny.
I find a knife.
I fall to the floor,
my emotions consume me,
turning me into a pitiful puddle.
I take the blade
to the back of my hand.
I make a smooth, quick cut.
My anxiety flows out of me
with the blood.
I am calm now,
able to deal with the problems at hand.

See how good cutting can be?
So much pain inside...
What's wrong with making it go away?
Don't you want me to be happy?

I just don't understand it. You are already in pain emotionally, why would you want to cause yourself physical pain. Seems kind of self-indulgent to me.

I'm w/ Rita... I still don't understand it either...
happiness should be w/ in urself... not at the end of a blade cutting thru ur skin. If u want to find true happiness w/in urself look deep inside u...
U'll find it hidden behind all that other garbage... where it's always been waiing for u to pick it up again. When u find urself that unsteady... that emotional pick up a writing pen instead and compose the feelings and thoughts ur having... committ them to paper instead of cutting ur self with the first sharp object u find... try it u might find it to have a better calming effect and this way won't leave scars for u to always have to look at and be reminded...
By the way a good write for what it is...

cutting is a great way to make the pain inside numb. its the only way i can think of that helps at all. i hate it when people say your killing yourself when you cut, because i would kill myself if i kept my emotions bottled up like that. cutting drains emotion slowly, if it were too quick you could kill yourself. plus the red is SUCH a pretty color

i slash too, not all the time but every time some thing creeps in that shouldn't be in there. it helps me get through it. only problem then is it can muck up my head for up to a week after, but if you like doing it then go nuts! who are others to tell you how to live your life for you?

Wow. Sounds like me when i'm cutting. You put into words perfectly. And for you people looking in from tha outside. I cut because i'd rather feel pain from hurtting myself rather than feeling all tha emotions and hurt from family or relationships. So don't judge and ask why we do what we do. We don't ask you.

awesome poem! and to those people who dont cut themselves, dont criticize those who do, you cant tell them how to live their lives by telling them to write it down and *****, that doesnt work. if you like cutting yourself and it helps then do it, just dont go to far.

you write about the same kinds of things that i do. I really appreciate your poem. i'm a cutter too and i can understand where you're comming from. most people think cutting is connected with suicide but scientific studies show that the majority of self-injurers that commit or attempt suicide do not use their means of injury as a suicide attempt. it really sucks trying to explain it to people tho.
