GIVING AND RECEIVING

Contributed by Lionel on Friday, 5th March 2004 @ 03:35:52 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

After much reflection in a new found direction,
and freed from confusion, I've reached this conclusion,
never to question an act of compassion.
For,although the intention may bring apprehension,
the ultimate being in control of the giving,
is the ruler of hearts, who causes us to part,
with selfishness cruel, quite the general rule,
in the fallen nature of every carnel creature,
unchanged by God, nor chastened by His rod.

For Gods power does reign in the heart of the king,
turning it with care, father Abraham to spare.
So then, it's quite true, He can turn you,
when He chooses to bring, clean from the unclean:
while working His will in the meanest men still-
here giving, there taking, with power in making,
things work for good, for those that He should.
So don't misconstrue, this witness is true,
I can faithfully tell; He doeth all things well.

More blessed is the giving than the receiving:
God knoweth the reason and brings forth in season,
the help we do find, at just the right time,
while He works in men to turn them from sin.
And this greatest giver stands ready to deliver,
whatever the need, to His chosen seed.
So, all glory and honor to the faithful donor,
who paid the great price with His precious life.
Yet, sadly some miss the beauty of this,
that the gift number one was Gods beloved Son.

Prov.21:1 "The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water; he turneth it whither-so-ever He will."
1 Cor.4:7 "who maketh thee to differ from another, and what hast thou that thou didst not receive?"
James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Ephes.1:4&5 "According as he hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world---{having predestinated us}---"

Lionel

Yes Lionel this is the kind of poem that gives witness to the boundless generosity of God.
Utter self-giving - kenosis that is beyond our understanding.
As far as "giving" among men is concerned, great delicacy and tact as well as the bearing (no condescension) by the giver, is paramount, so as not to wound the pride and self-esteem of the recipient, and to discern ti whom and in what manner the gift is given. Discernment and delicacy is a great asset.

But of course these latter virtues are a gift of God too.
All good things come from HIM.
Thank you for the beautiful and inspiring poem.
Blessings to you!
Elizabeth
