Growing old Disgracefully

Contributed by Wrybod on Friday, 5th March 2004 @ 11:49:21 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

Why am I standing looking in the fridge
for the tablets for cleaning dentures.?????
We don't keep the tablets in the fridge........
The start of my misadventures.........

The doorbell rings. ......a parcel
"Would your wife sign here for it...........?"
(I cannot possibly wake her)
"Just you wait there a bit."

Back to the kitchen, get a pen,
sign the ruddy receipt.....
Back to the door..."Thank you sir!"
(nothing like a bit of deceit.)

The kettle's whistling fit to bust
I make a cup of tea
Spill the milk! Get a cloth!
Wipe up so she won't see

Wash the dishes except the cups
They're badly stained with tea
I need the denture cleaning tablets
to get them as clean as can be

The phone rings. It's Mary from next door....
"You've got an emergency..........
The delivery man didn't shut the gate
a dog's in......... your cat's up the tree!"

Chase the dog off ! Shut the gate!
Get the cat from the tree..........
Now what on earth was I doing?
Where was I now ?........let's see.........

Why am I standing looking in the fridge.................

Gee Bob I truly missed you mate.
Haven't heard from you of late.
Do Hope this means you are busy indeed.
And not that you are ill or your lady's in need.

I stand at the refrig so many times in one day
What did come for, and will I have to pay.
With lots and lots of pounds put away
I loved this one so much, truly relate.

I have 6 critters and could just as well have 8
My day is forced labor for all 6 mate.
Hope you got your cat down from the tree
Get a better gate so he can run free!

Better still I hope your mate is better too!

Miss you mate,
hope all is well at your little cottage for Lord's
Sake.
love
consuemate

What a wonderful way to grow old ... in any way. A smile is on my lips and a warm feeling in my heart to the man you must be. The years creep up, but the love still remains. I felt it in your verse.

Justalady that is getting there also.
