SOLDIER'S LAMENT

The moon is directly overhead.
The stars are shining bright.
A lonely soldier is wondering,
What is my loved one doing tonight?
Miss her more than words can say.
When will we be together again?
When will the world be free of war?
I guess only God knows when.
We were just getting to know each other.
Had a few loving nights together.
Then the dark clouds came rolling in.
Bringing this stormy weather.
I'm sure the sun will shine again,
Out of an azure sky up above.
The day will come when the two of us
Can fulfill our lifetime of love.
