Shooting Up Life

Shooting Up Life

As I hold the needle,
The needle that makes my life seem so,
So bliss.

But between these moments of pure happiness,
Is a world that seems against,
Against me.

So the needle continues to puncture my skin,
Once a month,
Once a week,
Once a day.

Forty years has passed,
And now I lie,
Stretched out,
On this hospital bed.
And this bed,
Will be the last one,
I ever get to lay my head on each night,
Because I am dying.

I am dying,
Because each time I shot up,
Another does,
Just to experience false illusions of happiness,
I also shot down,
Another day off my life calender.

And now I am dead,
Unable to get back,
Those days I have given up...

This is genius. So many people out there think that the illusions of happiness they get from drugs are real. But they're not. They distort and destroy life, and you portrayed that wonderfully. I just wish that they would realize what you've realized--- that even though drugs seem good, they kill a little more each time you use.
Amazing thoughts. Expertly done.

God bless,
Ellen
