When I Woke Up

Contributed by WordPoet on Thursday, 12th September 2002 @ 06:06:09 AM in AEST
Topic: SecretLove

When I woke up this morning, I could only think of you,
Our bodies locked, your lips so soft, the moments quickly flew.
I looked so deep into your eyes and memorized your face,
And gently with my fingers your features I did trace.
An angels body soft as silk, you stayed within my arms,
It’s here I want to stay forever, entranced by your sweet charms.
Yet when my eyes were opened, you were nowhere to be found,
My longing heart has tricked me, you never were around.

And so I’ll look inside myself and tell you what I see,
There’s a longing, loving part of me just dying to be free.
Am I just a lovesick fool, who cannot see the light,
A blind and desperate joker, a cupid without flight.
I can’t deny my passions depth, the feelings are to strong,
Yet hiding them is a habit now, they’ve been locked away so long.
So in my mind my dreams comes true a secret to embrace,
And always there, when I wake up I’ll see your smiling face.

Doug,
What a masterful piece - honestly the best I've read so far..... Somehow, I was shocked at the end to find it written by a man! I can't wait to read more of your work......

juliette said, "Somehow, I was shocked at the end to find it written by a man! "

Unfortunatly I can completely understand this reaction but it happens once in a while. I am a hopeless romantic, loving what I can't have and living for every moment I can share with my dream made real. But there are times when the one I dream of is not around and so I close my eyes and see them there. This is what this poem is about. My longing desire for the one I can't have, my aching and longing that brings to to a place where I can share a moment with the one I love until once again reality crashes down around me and I am forced to realize that my dream was just a dream and the one I love a star out of reach.

I feel that everyone has lived this feeling at one time or another. A lot of what I write is based partially on experience and partially in creativity. I try to blend the two so that it is easier for everyone to relate to.
