So open and vast,
so vulnerable to attack.
I shrink in the corner,
hoping to go unnoticed.
The world jostles about,
hurting and destroying.
I sit against the wall,
trying to blend into it.
Hoping to escape the frenzy.
Eventually, people try to interact.
They speak words much too loud for my ears to hear.
They extend their hands,
as if to strike!
I curl into a defensive ball.
Then they stare.
That's all they ever do, stare and stare;
until I shriek.
I rest my head on my knees.
I cry in fright until my eyes are red and puffy.
They finally leave me be.
The predators are so overwhelming...
