Cleverly conceived conceits,
Monestrous metaphors:
You taught us, accepted us, prepared us.
If we missed the path,
Yours was not the fault;
If we have bought, at too great a price
that which seemed cheapest,
Yours was not our pattern.
When you taught us, we saw I clearly,
Love and hate, concern and apathy.
But ‘Sex, Sin and Immortality”
Was our cry. The wages of these
We considered not, and are lost.
But, if, sir, you wonder, ever,
What of worth you have done, know this:
That one, who once before you sat,
Sits still to write, and, writing, feels
and feeling, is thankful.

aww yes..the wonderful teachers in our lives. Seems sad though that most people don't realize the incredible impact a teacher has on their life until after the fact. Awesome tribute here! |

I was blessed w/ a great many truely gifted teachers in high school, mainly in the humanities...(which may simply show my bias). I just thought of the names of another six, and the faces of several others . . . but MRM was special.
I still owe him a book
