SEASONS
(LSHS Class of ‘66)
Some have gone beyond the turn
Of the several seasons' malice.
Others have forgotten, in the
Whirling wastes of the world's
Affairs, the season's turning.
Ah classmates, friends, strangers:
What splendid cities we saw!
What hopes we held like giant eggs,
Until the world smashed them,
Or, we, careless, let them fall.
The seasons mesh now merge now:
Winter's winds carry summer's thunder;
Springs fair and frail flowers
Die in Autumn's bitter frost.
We dry, we rot, Scattered, lost,
Like autumn leaves after the Season's
turn.
