The old woman nods
her head,
"I can remember,"
was all she said;
and I looked out
the window at the
frosted ground
and flakes of snow
drifting down
all around.
At half past the
following day,
"I can remember,"
was all she'd say
her wire framed glasses
slipping down her nose,
and she'd doze
while I studied the
sidewalk;
I could no longer see
and ice crystals reflected
sparkles at me.
Three days of snow
go by,
with a jerk and
"I can remember,"
I heard her cry,
her white hair tightly
coiled about her head
and all the things she might
have said
probably going through
her head
as the snow feel down
all around.
On the fifth day the old
lady
made no sound,
there was no snow falling
all around on the ground;
no snow from skies of gray,
she lost her will to live
that day.

Pronounced and competently written.
I found the story touching.
Well done. |
