Whisperings of God

Contributed by doug on Sunday, 29th February 2004 @ 11:44:00 PM in AEST
Topic: ChristianPoetry

one day while i was softly dreaming
pondering the secret meaning
a whisper came so gently streaming
streaming through my head
it was then i loudly wondered
who disturbs me while i ponder
it is God the voice responded
i was filled with dread
madman i said excited
come out here and stop your hiding
i'll forgive your silly lying
if you'll just admit
he said i love you and i yelled
follow you or go to hell
is that what you would call free will
what kind of choice is that
then there came a brilliant blazing
lights and singing so amazing
then the voice began by saying
hell does not exist
i fell upon my knees and prayed
apologies and homage made
the voice said do not be afraid
but you must realize this
i am a just and loving being
what kind of father would i be
to let my child eternily
burn in deepest hell
all who die will be rewarded
everyone will come before me
even those who have ignored me
will not be expelled
some will hope with great desire
to see their critics burn in fire
but this event will not transpire
God knows no revenge
when i made you i had meant
for each soul to be different
right and wrongs irrelevent
all souls will ascend
your path here is to learn and grow
experience so you will know
you misdeeds will not help you though
i tell you theres no right
but God i begged, God i pled
if i repeat the words you said
they will spit and stone my head
or burn me as a witch
you need not go proclaim your faith
you need not bow or even pray
i will love you anyway
you must remember this
the light then faded and was gone
although my sense of joy was not
no more sin or devil fought
i was completely free
and so i sung and walked away
knowing heaven waits for me
and i've told no one to this day
the whisperings of God

I don't think this is controversial. I do think, however, that it is one of your better poems. Very well written.

Religion is a topic that nearly everyone has an opinion on and no one can prove they are right. I, myself, like to think that god can be kind and merciful even to those who have sinned. I think that the different religions were created that all might know and love god, even if the details differ. I'm curious what book this was though.
