This Nothing

Contributed by Eve on Sunday, 29th February 2004 @ 10:27:13 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

I remember when I used to love.
A smile would come on the darkest of days
I never knew from what place it came from
Or how it could dare to appear
But I knew it was for me, and it made me love.

I remember when I used to hate.
The fire that would blaze behind those eyes
Without a merciful spark in them
Sometimes I needed to hate someone
And it was mine, because I had an excuse.

I remember when I used to laugh.
It'd come at the strangest things
But it made me feel warm
Like no cold could ever touch me.
Foolish, but then my laughter was mine.

I remember when I used to cry.
Tears that would drown me in seconds
And never stopped until I ran out.
I don't remember what it felt like
But I know it helped my emotions drain.

I remember when I used to feel.
I still do feel, but it's so muted sometimes
Like someone turned down the volume.
Most of the time I feel this apathy
And I can't push away this nothing.

really great right...I wish I had this numbness now. I know just what you're talking about. I'd give anything not to feel...I want to tun to the medicine cabinet not to feel...

Oh yes I have felt this apathy and also the other side of it, the surge and power of passion. As poets as well as human beings we ride this rollercoaster often, or at least I do!..Going up???....smiles...Russ

So well written...your words serve as an elegant backdrop to show off the deep emotion that courses through this poem. This is the best i've read from you in quite a while, and in my opinion your most emotional piece since "Memory of Forever." Beyond great.

Keep writing or develop arthritis,
-V.S.
