COWBOY

Contributed by mrrobert on Saturday, 28th February 2004 @ 04:51:56 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT A COWBOY
DOES’NT REALLY HAVE MUCH SENSE
THAT THEIR IDEA OF FUN
IS AN 8 SECOND DANCE

NOT REALLY FACING THE DANGER
LIKE MOST PEOPLE WOULD
JUST PRAYING AFTER A SUCCESSFUL RIDE
THAT THE NEXT ONE WILL BE JUST AS GOOD

ALL THE TIMES HE GETS THROWN
ALL THE NIGHTS HE SPENDS ALONE
GETTING STITCHED UP OR
MAYBE EVEN A BROKEN BONE SET
TO HIM IT CAN’T COMPARE
TO THE FEELING THAT HE GETS

AS HE LOOKS DOWN THE CHUTE
HE’LL CHECK EACH STURRUP ON EACH BOOT
HE’LL GO OVER IN HIS MIND
“WILL THIS BULL BLOW OUT OF THE GATE
OR WILL THE BULL GET OUT THERE
AND SPIN THIS TIME

IT’S JUST HIM AND THE BULL, AT IT AGAIN
AFTER LOOKING OVER THE BULL
HE CAN’T HELP BUT GRIN

YEAH, THEY SAY IT TAKES A SPECIAL PERSON
TO LIVE A COWBOYS LIFE
I THINK ABOUT IT AND SAY
“YA KNOW, I GUESS THEY’RE RIGHT”

I grew up on a ranch with real cowboys and it does take a real man to be a cowboy. The job is 24/7 at times. Rain, sleet, snow, 110 degrees chasing livestock, mending fences on hundreds of acres. Their rodeo recreation isn't any less sane than fighting the traffic in New York, or playing ball, or walking in a park. In the end, probably a lot less dangerous. These are men with real hearts and strong beliefs. This is a good write, just doesn't show the real cowboy.
