A Soldiers Life

Contributed by mrrobert on Saturday, 28th February 2004 @ 04:44:25 PM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

IT STARTS LIKE ANY OTHER LIFE
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS YOU’RE CALLING
YOUR DRILL SEARGANT MOM
AND YOUR GOVERNMENT ISSUED RIFLE
YOUR WIFE

THE DAYS SEEM LONG AND HARD AT FIRST
BUT AFTER A WHILE THE DAYS AREN’T LONG ENOUGH
TO QUENCH YOUR THIRST
YOU’VE TURNED INTO WHAT
THEY WANTED YOU TO
A DEFENDER OF OLE GLORY
THE RED, WHITE & BLUE

NOW YOUR JOB IS CLEAR
WITH A WELL DEFINED GOAL
TO RID THE WORLD OF TERROR
MAKE THIS WORLD SAFER
FOR EVERY LIVING SOUL

NO ONE SAID THE TASK WOULD BE EASY
& THE SACRIFICES WILL ABOUND
BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THE NOISE THAT
WAS HEARD, AROUND THE WORLD,
WHEN THOSE TWIN TOWERS
CAME DOWN

TO ATTACK THE PENTAGON
WHERE THIS COUNTRY HOUSES
ITS MILITARY MIGHT
SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR RESOLVE
AND WILLINGNESS TO FIGHT

WE WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT
THAT A CATASTROPHE OF SUCH MAGNITUDE
COULD EVER HAPPEN ON OUR SOIL
BUT OUR RESOLVE WILL BE GREATER
AND THEIR FUTURE TERROR PLANS
WILL, IN FACT, BE FOILED

THE FACT IS WE BEGAN TO RETALIATE
ON THAT SAME DAY
WHEN A HANDFUL OF BRAVE SOULS
BROUGHT DOWN A HIJACKED PLANE
AND FOR THEM WE WILL PRAY

SO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH
FOR FREEDOM AND THE RED, WHITE & BLUE
REMEMBER THIS IS OUR COUNTRY
IT BELONGS TO
ME & YOU

I live in Czech republic now, but will always be American in heart and flesh! The Red , White and blue is something I amgreatful to have faught for. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and poem with us all. May God Bless you.
