THIS MODERN AGE

Contributed by Lionel on Friday, 27th February 2004 @ 01:14:40 PM in AEST
Topic: ChildrensPoetry

Devout religionists this day and age,
ignore Holy Writ and slyly engage,
in show and pretense, going strong,
with changing doctrine, always wrong.

"Prophets" appear to witness proud,
of "signs and wonders" while the crowds,
display shallow expressions of love,
Godly, in form, but denying the power thereof.

They weave a patchwork of mad design,
as out of hell, with a foolish mind,
of strength in man: his power of will,
the witness of sacred truth to kill.

Religious merchandising gaining ground,
with ever larger cathedrals around;
in excitement feigning wisdoms lamp,
while forcing truth outside the camp.

Mans ability they proudly proclaim;
absent of meekness, devoid of shame.
Man who is always a slave to sin,
without Christ's imputed righteousness within.

Could we see again, as in Luther's day,
men called by God and given sway,
His great truths to again proclaim;
breaking hearts, putting pride to shame.

Declaring the Lord upon his throne,
His wonderful attributes being shown.
To show the Savior in true light;
His discerning love, His omnipotent might.

To quiet the "wishing," "trying" sound,
and declare His soveriegnty all around.
Christ shall and will complete His task;
all His sheep will be found at last.

He shall bring them all to repentence true,
sparing us all this devel's brew.
Because its in the Fathers will,
the gold to refine, the dross to kill.

Yet, God has purpose in all thats done,
to show man's depravity under the sun.
To reveal the impotence of man's will;
of pride to slay, of self to kill.

This is the work of God divine;
changing hearts and changing minds.
The deaf then hear; the blind then see,
a soveriegn Christ upon that tree.

Lionel

Ahhh, the itching ears. People just swallow it whole, don't they? Christ on the cross---that is the whole message. Once we understand that, we can just stand in awe.
