Box Of Jewels

Contributed by Daniel_Brabble on Tuesday, 10th September 2002 @ 08:17:35 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Sitting on the wooden bench
watching the crowds go by
A sea of humanity swept along
whipped into eddying currents
of turbulent emotion
By the prevailing winds of change
Some milling about aimlessly
perhaps searching for a reason
to stay afloat in these violent waters
The rush and the roar
filtered through a million lips
resonates with the pulsating beat
of an entire spectrum of thought and will

Brooding; quietly struck
by the overwhelming sense
of some inevitable truth
beneath it all
I comment to the stranger
beside me
And this is what he said:

Our world is a box of jewels
In which we all share a space
Some of the stones are dull and tarnished
from years of unloved rejection
Some shine brighter than the brightest star
refracting the inner light of love
to the farthest reaches of eternity
Some are formless
Having yet to be shaped
by the irresistable chisel
of time and will
But whatever the shape or colour
the same potential resides
within us each and every one
Through seasons and years we wait
a dormant seed
For the loving touch of another
To heal and to guide
The true definition of grace
in our capacity for unthinking sacrifice
None of us can save ourselves
rather we wait for that magical moment
When we are imbued with the greatest
of gifts
When our eyes are opened
and like a newborn we see the world
with virgin innocence
Experience afresh the joys of love

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
