WITHOUT COMPLAINT

She rises in the morning before the morning light,
short of rest, moving about, being very quiet.
Firing the coal stove, for her family to make bread,
while they all lay snugly and peacefully in the bed.
She must be thinking of the long, long day a-coming,
about the bus to Woolworth, and what she will be doing.
Or, maybe of her children she must be getting off to school;
or then, about the weather and her long walk in the cold.
How did she ever manage to shoulder such a burden:
the monotonous routine, necessity had laid upon her?
The whole of her life became bound up in serving,
five little children, she's so whole-heartedly loving.
Never have I ever heard her register one complaint,
about her exhausting task in life, taken without restraint.
Wretched work, long and hard, borne out in the doing,
and through it all a cheerfulness, to us so reassuring.
Oh, but what a task, sixteen hours to the day,
washing, ironing, cooking and that job with meager pay.
And yet, in her poverty, material things in the wanting,
she had strife in her marriage from an alcoholic prompting.
I don't know how she did it all those many years,
when I think about it, it just fills my eyes with tears.
You'll not find love like this in a sister or a brother,
it's only to be found in a blessed, faithful mother.
Perhaps, along with His blessing of grace,
God made within her heart a very special place,
to deposit this love, of a Christ like kind,
and persevering faith for a trial filled time.
I shall continue to be thankful for the rest of my life,
that God in His great wisdom decreed it to be right,
to show me special mercy, and extra favor too,
when in His own good pleasure, he gave this child to you -- I love you MOM.

I am fighting tears myself. Now I miss my mom. This is a deeply touching, tender dedication to a mother who sounds absolutely wonderful. I can't praise this one enough. Well done! Kie |
