Way out there

Contributed by twinkletoes on Tuesday, 24th February 2004 @ 08:52:31 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

He sits within the concourse a quiet, thinking man
Watching hundreds hurry, scurry to stay within a plan
A call to come to order he stands to make his leave
He is one them but never to interweave.
An individual they would see if they cared to take a look
It makes no difference to him, he can read them like a book
As one by one the folk line up-to the aircraft in single file
With this man of country leisure and boots of R.M style.

A cabin full of people each one with fancy airs
All with paid for power and plated bequeathed cares.
Others they try impress with gold and fancy rings
Their Gucci suits and hair-do’s Vuitton bags and tricky things.
And as they fly across the heavens above the clouds on high
With silver service, smoked salmon he thinks, ol’ Henry he would cry.
He was not impressed by opulence, nor by money’s pomp and fair
Just like him he sees’ another joy in the beauty, way out there.

A western seat he asks for, each and every daytime flight
So he may keep his country well within appraising sight.
He does not speak, he does not hear, the faint whispers from around
For his heart and soul and mind are gone, they are westward bound
As he looks towards the sunset he thinks of that other place
Where people need each other and friendship is a grace.
Eyes closed he returns to country, red, barren forever dry
Beyond the green ploughed fields and The Great Divide.

And yes, I miss the Cooper with the clarity of her skies
The beauty of her banks her birds her dingo cries.
Her timeless sence of being her majestic flow downstream
Her people and her stories now are things I only dream.
Take me back to the Cooper where the cattle run
Out through the never, never under the burning outback sun.
Back to the country that I love, and where life is rarely fair
I am grateful I have seen and told, of the beauty way out there.
