A Sister's Prayer

Contributed by JadedExistence on Tuesday, 24th February 2004 @ 01:41:41 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

The violence rolls off him
Wave after wave
I have to be strong
I have to be brave

He grabs me and throws me
And I hit the wall
I land on the stairs
And I start to fall

Stair after stair
One after the other
As I hit bottom
I pray for my brother

He's only four
Already in bed
He can't take this
So I take it instead

I ran up the stairs
And went to my room
I hid in the closet
Quite as a tomb

The door was thrown open
And there he stood
He hit me then
As hard as he could

My head flew back
And hit the door
He pulled me out
And I fall to the floor

Hands around my throat
I start to choke
I hear him laugh
As though it's a joke

I can't breath anymore
The world's going black
I see the hate in his eyes
And know I'm not coming back

I pray for my brother
Keep him away from daddy's hate
Please get him away from here
Before it's too late

Is this poem true?If it is,I deeply feel for you.I caught a glimpse of all the pain you suffered through your writing and I,myself,am suffering,I can only imagine what it feels like in reality. You are truly one kind person to be thinking of your brother when you're the one being hit.....I mean I understand after you've been abused, but while? That's truly something, you really are a caring person.May God bless you and your little brother and may He fill your dad with love.....Good luck to you and again, good write.

This is partly based on my personal experience. I do have experience with parental violence only not to this extent. And it has stopped in the last year or so. This is mostly based on the last time he ever hit me. I want to thank everyone for their love and support with everything I have written, sometimes it seems like the only way to deal with some of the things I feel and it really helps. So thank you!

Thanks for your comments

Heartwrenching. You have shown (not told, but shown, which is more effective) the love and protectiveness of a sibling only those who've been there can completely understand.
Good write.

I agree Jaded,I like you, feel so much better when I write down what I feel.Only then do I find peace inside.
