Why does my heart weep?
Oh, but these are the thoughts
of a rattled mind.
They are bludgeoned by their owner
into submission.
And cry you should
Grit your teeth and
tear at your beard and
claw your own flesh until
it bleeds for approval.
But do not wait for the sun
to rush through the window blinds
like the morning lark to start her song.
For your wings stretch farther
and are stronger than
the lark's.
No, do not wait for the call
of the morning's song.
She is no goddess of ours.
Instead, be still
like the deep water
in which you bloom.
And listen to your voice as
the oak listens to his-
root deeply into your earth.
Be as gentle as the wind
which caresses your delicate leaves.
Burn with the fire
that is the stuff of our soul.
Know that you are always intoxicating
like the poet's song.
And the poets will sing about you
as they do about all things
that are perfectly flawed.
Perfection is a misguided goal.
Is the tulip that grows not perfect,
yet it's roots are caked in mud?
Does it not blossom to kiss
the ever journeying sun,
then fall and decay in the
bitterly cold embrace of the snow?
Aye, for a thousand seasons it does.
So I say this-
Leave me not hungering
for your affection.
Strip me of it and leave me naked
or let me be drunk on it.
For your hand is cruel and
your mouth is cruel and
your eyes are like the cold light
of the pale moon.
Now I grow weary.
Thoughts of you have bled me dry.
So I kiss your lips in
the garden of my imagination
and touch your skin one last time
as I drift into the innocence
of my own slumber
and sift through these bitter ashes.

Oh, how I wish I had written this! It's like you've taken all my small writes and combined them into everything I want to say in one perfect (yes, I used that word) poem.
FANTASTIC!
